KUW

Here are a few examples of the children's work from different year groups!
As a MAT, we combine History and Geography knowledge together as 'Knowledge and Understanding of the World' (KUW)

History
Through our teaching of History we encourage our pupils to be interested and observant about the historical and social aspects of their local environment, British and World history. We help students develop chronological awareness when studying significant events and people. Compare and contrast the past with the present, ask questions, form hypotheses, have opinions and develop their own point of view. We teach pupils to respect the values and cultures of people represented in the past and present. Develop skills of enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation and presentation, whilst working individually and co-operatively, listening to and valuing the opinion of others.

History aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the people. The present is in fact the child of the past. Without the knowledge of history we cannot have the background of our existence.

‘History is not everything, but it is a starting point. History is a clock that people use to tell their political and cultural time of day. It is a compass they use to find themselves on the map of human geography. It tells them where they are but, more importantly, what they must be.’
John Henrik Clarke

Geography
Geography teaching provides knowledge of the different people of the world and the contributions made by them for the development of world culture. Through the knowledge of geography pupils realise the interdependence of mankind and develop a sympathetic attitude when observing a similarity of needs all over the world.

Through our teaching of Geography we aim to stimulate pupils' enthusiasm for, and curiosity about their surroundings and the wider world. We seek to increase pupils’ knowledge and understanding of different communities and cultures. Increase their knowledge and understanding of the changing world and encourage pupils to ask questions and propose solutions to environmental problems.

The pupils of today shall be citizens of tomorrow and the knowledge of natural resources and economic conditions gained by the study of geography will help them be a part of the global community.
